What is Christmas in the UK going to be like? Elizabeth McMullen, Raynes Park High School.

When going through a pandemic firsthand, sometimes you ask yourself “Why is this happening?” “When will this end?”. Although we seem to be far from normality, the 5-Day Christmas break in Lockdown will hopefully allow for a much-needed sense of relief from the repetitiveness of being constantly stuck inside.

With the three-household bubble rules, there is no need to social distance from any family or friends that may come to visit, or vice versa. “Each Christmas bubble can meet at home, at a place of worship or an outdoor public place” said express.co.uk

In comparison to England, People in Northern Ireland will be allowed an extra day either side of the five-day window to travel, in order to allow for flights, and travel is permitted, however you should try your utmost to remain in separate cars to those of different households.

How will the travel industry and hotels remain in business/ be able to remain open?

Britons have been permitted to go abroad through the 5-day relaxation period, and you are also permitted to stay in a hotel, but only on your own or with your household.

With the bubbles being formed with 3 separate households at a maximum, it is not permitted to stay in hotels or B&Bs together, as it has been banned.

Staying in private accommodations with your bubble is permitted and within government guidelines.

Finally, we are advised to remain cautious in terms of physical contact between households, especially if there are vulnerable people involved in the bubble, such as those with asthma or bronchitis.
