The high street is an integral part of almost every city. A constantly changing mass of shops and restaurants all fighting for people's buisiness. However, in recent years high streets have generally become far less popular than they formerly were.
The reason for this decline in popularity? Online shopping. With almost any item available on the high street available at just the click of a button often at far more competitive prices, it just seems like the way forward as it is too difficult for classic high street stores to compete with this.
What will this mean for the high street?
With the government recently announcing plans to convert abandoned shops into housing, April 12th, the day non essential shops reopen, will be an essential date for the high street. If buisiness is booming, the high street will regain its popularity, but if this isn't the case it could be the end of the high street as we know it.
