Many of us grew up following the adventures and mischiefs of Greg Heffley in the Diary of a Wimpy Kid series by Jeff Kinney. The hilarious stories, silly doodles and quirky characters made it impossible not to fall in love with the books and when the first Diary of a Wimpy Kid movie was released in 2010, we were not disappointed. The movie had a similar sense of humour to the books, this proved to be a huge hit with fans and top critic Paul Byrnes stated that it was “reasonably faithful to the spirit of the books”. The positive feedback with they young generation led into another two successful movies being released in the film series however in 2017, a fourth movie “Diary of a Wimpy Kid: the Long Haul” was released in the film series but with a completely new cast.

This was said to be due to the fact the original cast were growing up and were no longer suited to play their young characters so they were replaced with younger actors. This, in the eyes of many fans and critics, was a huge a mistake. We had all become attached to the characters that the original actors had portrayed and developed as their own that when the new movie was released there was no connection.

Many fans were especially disappointed by the replacement of Devon Bostick who originally played Rodrick, Greg Heffley’s brother and lead drummer of the band Loded Diper. This caused #notmyrodrick to go viral in 2017.
