Is corona doing as much harm to people as much as the mental health of the nation deterioating?

"Lockdown has been devastating for mental health and the worst could be yet to come"

The mental health charity Mind says a survey has revealed that lockdown has had a dramatic impact on the nation’s mental health, warning that unless action is taken now, the problem could grow.

A recent study found that people who are socially isolated are almost 50 percent more likely to suffer a premature death.

Loneliness has been linked to a host of serious illnesses for years - and the lockdown will claim yet more lives indirectly related to the pandemic, warned researchers at University Hospital in Essen, in Germany. Dr Janine Gronewold, a psychologist, said: "Worldwide, suicides associated with the corona crisis have already increased due to the fear of not being able to control the disease which leads to insecurity. Financial consequences are unknown and lead to existential fear."

In almost half of the lockdown-period suicides, or 48 per cent, factors related to Covid-19 or the social restrictions were thought to have contributed.

So, is it really corona killing people or are the side effects the most harmful. Mental health is a silent killer and affects everyone at least once in a while. As the festive season approaches it is important everyone stays in contact with those who are elderly or perhaps shielding as we move into tiered measures!
