The world came to a halt a couple of months ago forcing people inside and restricting them into doing the barest minimum. The world is a competitive place so there will always be people who are trying to one up each other in their areas of expertise. An example of this is the way people have continued to work on their craft or profession even though they must do it in imperfect lockdown conditions. The lockdown rules meant that everyone had to stay apart and keep their distance. This resulted in people using information technology systems such as Zoom to stay connected with colleagues from work, musicians collaborated online together to create new songs, and actors even created scripts for themselves to perform live from home. The reason why all these ideas came into fruition is that nobody wanted to fall behind. Even when the world has gone into lockdown and is at a standstill, it somehow manages to make progress due to the will of people to constantly exercise their skills.

Since I play competitive tennis, I needed to try to stay sharp and fit so that when I eventually returned to playing, I would not struggle. Tennis is a very competitive sport, as all sports are, where many people are trying to strengthen their skills and physique to be the best. So, players will find themselves at advantages where their match record has ranked them higher than others. However, when the lockdown arrived, it was as if there was going to be a clean slate. Since there was not to be any competitive activity for several months, everybody in the competitive pool now had similar or the same challenges to overcome. When competition returned, the defining factor therefore was whoever had prepared the best in the lockdown period found the best success.

This is true all the way up to elite sport. Everybody had the same amount of time away from competition, so it is up to the competitors to be the fastest out of the blocks once they return. This just goes to show how the lockdown has evened out the playing field.
