Romain Grosjean’s Life Threatening Crash

The Bahrain Grand Prix most known for the high-speed straights and fast corners. It is one of highlight races in the calendar for Formula 1 as is it is raced under lights in the glorious desert. The anticipation for the race was high with all drivers believing they where able to make up positions from the very start with the 350-meter dash to turn one. As the light turned green Bottas in the black Mercedes had a very poor start causing him to lose many positions. As the drivers turned around the third corner Romain Grosjean in his Haas car smashed into the barriers at 150 MPH and making contact at 53 Gs into the barrier. As his car collided it caused the full fuel tank in the back to erupt causing huge flames and Romain to be in a pit of fire. The safety car that normally follows the cars on the first lap was on the scene instantly. The marshals who surround the track where able to quickly get to the fire and try and put it out. However, Romain was still conscious luckily and was able to pull himself out of the fire with the help of the safety car driver who put himself at huge risk to save the life of the driver. Romain left the scene with only burns to the back of his hands and no broken bones or severe injuries. The vigorous safety precautions that have been given for the drivers so the car can with hold such crashes have been put to the test and passed with flying colours. It has been said that if this crash was five years ago a life would be lost. This crash highlights the dangerous nature of formula 1 and showing why these drivers deserve their huge salaries. After a lengthy delay to repair the barrier and make sure the race was safe to restart, Hamilton crossed the chequered flag securing another victory in his record breaking season.
