Christmas 2020: What festive plans could look like during Covid-19? (by Charlotte Picardo, Kingsley Academy)

Loyal readers, Needless to say, it’s been a whirlwind year. There’s been a lot of back and forth since the Covid-19 has arisen, somehow through all this instability, I'm still me.

Christmas brings joy, excitement, family, love and lights. Well certainly, this Christmas, most of us are not likely to go to mass as we are supposed to maintain social distancing, parties would have to be cancelled and so on due to strict restrictions that the coronavirus has brought to all us humans. Nevertheless, people have been preparing for this festive season with the same enthusiasm and passion as every year.

However, the great news from the Telegraph has revealed that “Boris Johnson is preparing to announce a UK-wide relaxation of rules from December 22 to 28, allowing several families to join in one "bubble". This would allow us to enjoy the bit of festivity that we have.

A good friend, Jenissa Dias said that:

“Christmas spirit has overtaken the place not only at home but in our hearts as well. Melted hearts and sparked sweet treats and cocoa in the kitchen, the fresh smell of gingerbread and the reflection of the illuminations of decorations during this holiday spirit.” It is certainly true that we aren’t able to follow our traditions of celebrating like the previous years, I think that there are many ways of celebrating: having virtual events, sending gifts via courier, most importantly we all can decorate our homes.

The Prime Minister said: “Christmas is going to be different this year, perhaps very different. but it’s my sincere hope and belief that by taking tough action now we can allow families across the country to be together.”
With Christmas Eve falling on a Friday and a Bank Holiday on Monday December 28, ministers are examining whether indoor gatherings could be permitted within this five-day period.

However, the question is that will Covid still disrupt the future festivals that are coming through our way. How long will this last? I’m sure all of you'll, whether you await for Christmas or not, are worried about not having the chance to spend time with your loved ones who are perhaps living in another area or in another country.

Thank you for all your love and support! Sharing my writing with all of you means more than you’ll ever know. May you be blessed the Merriest Christmas in advance.
