This summer, I volunteered at Streatham Library to help with the Summer Reading Challenge that takes place at different libraries each summer. This was my third year helping with the event.

The theme this year was ‘Space Chase’. Parents would sign their children up at their local library, and then the participants would read six library books of their choice to complete the Challenge. There are exclusive rewards to collect along, and it is free to take part.

To help launch the start-up of the actual Summer Reading Challenge, Streatham Library hosted a range of events such as Slime Making Competitions, Sporting Activities and Arts and Crafts Sessions. The number of children who attended the activities was high and most importantly they enjoyed themselves and had the opportunity to make new friends. The Library also helped children improve their reading skills.
