On the eleventh hour, of the eleventh day of the eleventh month Isleworth stood still to celebrate one hundred years since the First World War came to an end. The Isleworth 390 Project was started by the past Chairman of The Isleworth Society, Peter Downes, in 2014 as a way to unify the local children and community to pay respects to the 390 servicemen who gave their lives for the country and community.
The aim of this project, now on its fourth year, was to get the local community of Isleworth to find out more about the the men listed on the Isleworth War Memorial to honour their memory.
Amongst those lost was Cecil Percival who, despite being born in Hammersmith, moved to Hounslow in 1911 with his family. He joined the 13th Battalion East Surrey Regiment after enlisting in the army followed by his younger brother John Reginald who was only 15 at the time. Percival died on the 8th October 1917 and is listed as “killed in action”, his brother survived.
