Teddington resident Andy Baddeley ran away from a 400-strong field to win Saturday morning’s 5km Parkrun event at Bushy Park.

The Olympic 1,500m finalist, now a professional athlete having been a former St Mary’s Twickenham student and part-time lecturer, marked his debut appearance by winning in 14 minutes, 23 seconds.

Two others running in the event for the first time, Mark Draper (14:44) and Mike Skinner (14:54), who lives in Hampton, got inside the 15-minute barrier.

Baddeley’s time was the second best, behind the course record of 14:00 set by Australian Olympic runner Craig Mottram in June 2006.

Draper’s and Skinner’s times put them seventh and ninth on the all-time list.

Another international, Bedford’s Katrina Wootton, set a women’s course record of 16:20, beating a mark set by Sonia O’Sullivan in June 2005, in finishing 10th overall.

l Thames Hare & Hounds’ Andy Robinson won the Wimbledon Common run in 17:47 from Lancaster & Morecambe’s Rory McMahon (17:56).

Thames’ over-50 veteran Richard Pitt posted the best age-graded performance in finishing sixth in 18:46, just ahead of the first woman, Liz Wynn, from Serpentine (18:49).

l St Mary’s Richmond’s Noel Stoddart completed a hat-trick of wins in taking the Richmond Parkrun in 17:32 from unattached runner James Flood (17:50).

l Belgrave international Richard Ward ran away with the Banstead Woods Parkrun in 16:46 to finish well clear of Joseph Chang (18:52) and Joe Brewer (19:13), both from Surbiton-based 26.2 Road Runners.

l Stragglers’ Danny Norman headed home a 200-strong field in taking the Bushy Park run on New Year’s Day.

Norman crossed the line in 17 minutes, two seconds to win by around 40m from St Mary’s Richmond teenager Grant Bridgeman, with Stragglers’ veteran Roy Reeder third in 17:35.

The top woman was Katherine March, from Barnet, who won on her debut appearance in 19:45, with unattached runner Anna Murawska second in 21:03.

l Reigate Priory’s Andy Walker repeated his 2008 win in taking the Banstead Woods time trial on New Year’s Day in 17:27, just one second slower than his time at the start of 2008.

Joseph Chang, from Surbiton-based 26.2 Road Runners, was runner-up, 50 seconds slower.
