Hampton's FA Cup dream died 90 minutes after it started. The Beavers were thrashed 5-1 by Havant and Waterlooville on Saturday.

Havant, top of Dr Martens League South, adopted a shoot on sight policy, which reaped dividends just 12 minutes into this second qualifying round clash.

Having been punished for their slow start, the Beavers were given a lifeline after half an hour when Havant keeper Mark Brown took too many steps.

The indirect free kick wasn't cleared, and Jamie Beer unleashed a low drive which Steve Cheshire deflected into the net. But they couldn't make it to the break on level terms after losing the ball in attack and going behind 42 minutes from the resulting break.

And they were caught again on 62 minutes when keeper Mark Russell had to come 30 yards out his line to clear the ball, which went straight to Craig Anstey who lofted it into the net from 50 yards.

Havant scored twice more to complete the rout.

Hampton will want to put their South Coast trip behind them before Saturday's Ryman Division 1 match at home to Basingstoke.
