Richmond maintained their strong start to the 2019/20 season by overcoming Chinnor 26-14, in front of a boisterous home crowd at the Athletic Ground.

On a stunning afternoon in Richmond, the home side trailed 7-6 at half-time, before hitting top gear in the second half, crossing for two tries through hard-working flanker Jesse Liston and replacement David Banfield.

Fullback Rob Kirby was his usual self with the boot, slotting four penalty goals and two conversions, to maintain his 100% kicking record to start the season.

While Toby Saysell, in his return to the First XV, was named Player of the Match. The powerful forward was at his hard-hitting best, dominating the set piece and providing a strong force in both attack and defence.

Following the match, Saysell said: “It was really tough, they had some big players who carried very hard, so we’re very pleased with the win. We definitely had to work on a few things following the first half, but it was great to see the boys put in a strong performance after the break to get the result.”

Richmond will now turn its attention to an away fixture against old rivals Blackheath next Saturday 21st September (KO 3pm).
