It was a case of deja-vu for Thomas Frank as he saw one error result in a 1-0 defeat for his Brentford side at Charlton.

Conor Gallagher’s strike just before the break compounded the Bees to their second successive defeat after losing at Leeds by the same margin mid-week.

Despite dominating possession, Brentford left The Valley pointless as Gallagher benefitted from a Bees mistake whereby Jonny Williams picked the pocket of Christian Norgaard before sliding in his teammate.

Dropping to 20th in the league, Frank said there was not much more his side could do in regard to performance.

“It’s a little difficult for me to put the ball in the back of the net myself,” said Frank.

“I think we did a lot of things right, we changed second half, put pressure on, everything.

“We played with so many offensive players, we only had three defenders in the second half.

“We did enough to walk away with three points.

“I’m satisfied with performance in terms of dominating and creating chances.

“We gave one chance away, our own mistake, we shouldn’t play the pass, and we should also react quicker.

“But on the other hand, offensively we lacked that top quality on the day, we have it, we know Sergio (Canos), Emiliano (Marcondes) and Ollie (Watkins) all have it, but on the day the final decision or pass was too short, too bad or too long, that’s what we need to work on.”

Frank is aware that Brentford’s attacking nature and dominating possession will mean plenty of sides in the division will adopt a defensive approach when facing the Bees, it’s a problem the manager says his side need solve.

“You can see teams, not only Lee Bowyer and his Charlton side, they came with diamond, man marking our ten’s and eights, that didn’t work because we still dominated early on, but when they changed formation we lost momentum.

“They did well to disturb us, we just need to handle that better.”
