St Mary's University's Charlie Grice will go into this Friday's Meeting Herculis EBS IAAF Diamond League in Monaco brimming with confidence, writes Ziad Chaudry.

The 25-year-old Twickenham based middle distance specialist repeated his men's 1500m victory in Marseille International Athletics Meeting Athlè Pro Tour at Stade Delort, Marseille, France from twelve months ago, this time registering a season's best 3:34.35.

Morocco's Abdelaati Iguider claimed second spot with 3:34.84 with Ethiopian Teddese Lemi third in 3:35.09.

Following his fantastic victory in Zlatà Tretra IAAF World Challenge men's mile in Ostrava, Czech Republic a couple of weeks ago, the in-form Grice believes he deserved his right to compete in this Friday's (July 12) prestigious higher-ranked IAAF Diamond League meet where he will line up against Rio Olympic gold medalist Matthew Centrowitz and World champion Elijah Montonei Manangoi.

"I just keep winning and that's all I can do," he said. "I've got a lane in Monaco so I'm happy. That's what I believe I should be in."

Also in Marseille last Thursday, fellow Twickenham resident Adelle Tracey says her preparations for next month's British Championships and World Trials are going according to plan.

In her fourth 800m outing this outdoor, the 26-year-old British international clocked 2:02.25 three places behind winner from Kenya Nelly Jepkosgei (2:00.50)

"I was a bit disappointed with the actual result but in terms of how I'm feeling and the process I'm going through everything is going well," said former British Indoor champion Tracey.

"It's just all about getting races in and just trying to get better at racing, ready for trials and hopefully a good time will come with that. But preparations are going well and on track."

Another Twickenham-based athlete Elliot Giles finished ninth with 1:46.99 in men's 800m which was won by Moroccan Mostafa Smaili (1:45.77)
