Becoming British Number One is not on Dan Evans's radar despite his winning return to Wimbledon.

Evans beat Argentinian Federico Delbonis 6-3, 7-6, 6-3 in the Englishman's first game at SW18 in three years.

Despite admitting his game is currently in a good place, usurping current British No.1 Kyle Edmund is not in his sights.

"I'm not that way inclined, I don't want to be better than them, I want to be better than the other guys," he said.

"If I go high in the rankings that will take care of itself.

"We're the only country in the world who says you're the British No.1 or the et cetera No.1.

"Everybody else gets introduced as the world No.10 or 12.

"We're British No.1.

"We're obsessed with being British No.1!

Richmond and Twickenham Times:

"It's not a massive thing for me, hopefully we just keep winning, we all do well."

The 29-year-old missed the 2017 Championships as he served a one-year drugs ban, whilst he missed out in qualifying last year.

Breaking in to the top 60 with his first round win, he admitted his delight for the reception and support he had from a rapturous Court18.

"It's great that everybody came out to watch.

"I'm just very happy to be welcomed back so well.

"Obviously I've been away for a little bit from my own doing, so it's good to be back."

Suffering online trolling during his ban, Evans removed himself from social media, a move he believes allows him to focus on his game although he's reluctant to compare himself to the player he was before the ban.

Evans admitted that quitting the sport following the ban never entered his head as he felt he could return to the player that made the third round in 2016, losing to Roger Federer on Centre Court.

"It's not easy when you're starting back from nothing.

"I had a lot of people in my corner, stuck with me, they told me I'd be back here.

"This tournament is obviously special in its own way, I can't say this tournament made me come back because there's other things I had to prove to myself to get back. I let a lot of poeple down more than anything. I had to get back for them.

"Let's be honest, what else am I going to do? Got to earn money somehow."

Evans will face Nikoloz Basilashvili in the next round who beat Briton James Ward 8-6 in the fifth set.
