'The Juggernaut' Joe Joyce is already making plans for next year but is pretty keen to fight for the world title before then, writes Ziad Chaudry.

The 33-year-old Putney continued his march towards a showdown with WBA 'regular' world heavyweight champion Manuel Charr with a terrific third round knockout victory over Belarus's Alexander Ustinov on the undercard of Frank Warren's Billy Joe Saunders Vs Shefat Isufi WBO world super-middleweight title marquee bill at Stevenage FC last Saturday.

Ustinov, who incidentally challenged Syria-born Charr for the WBA belt last year, failed to beat the count after receiving a weaving wild left hook from the former Earlsfield ABC rep and 2016 Olympic silver medalist.

Joyce, in his first fight under Frank Warren's Queensbury Promotions banner and new trainer Adam Booth, was trying something different at the start before completing the job in explosive style.

"I just thought I try out some new stuff and see where I can land my shots," he said.

"Ustinov's a season veteran, he's very tough and each round he kind of changed a little bit, he must have been listening to his corner and rightly so.

"Likewise with me, I'm trying to incorporate what Adam Booth's telling me in the corner. Working with a new team, it was a great team. It was a really buzzing environment getting me warmed out for the fight.

"I came in warm and ready and it was great to put on such a performance in front of a big crowd from Stevenage. Shout out to everyone who came and everyone who was watching on BT Sport. I felt good."

Joyce, who advances to nine straight pro wins, will next feature on the undercard of Greenwich's Daniel Dubois Vs Nathan Gorman vacant British heavyweight title clash on 13 July at The O2, North Greenwich. He admits he cannot wait to get out again as he pencils his future plans.

"I will be back in the gym ASAP and get ready for July 13th and I can't wait," he continues. "I would like a World title by the end of the year and set myself up for some really big fights in 2020."
