Thomas Frank has lauded Neal Maupay as Brentford’s leading scorer grabbed his 25th goal this season in a comfortable 2-0 win against struggling Ipswich Town.

The French striker added to his tally when Said Benrahma skipped past a defender to thread him through before he fired past goalkeeper Bartosz Bialkowski.

Brentford’s victory, which saw Ollie Watkins get on the scoresheet eight minutes later courtesy to another Benrahma assist, ends their five-match run without a win.

But Frank has suggested Maupay’s exploits are not as surprising anymore due to the work he puts in behind the scenes to become so prolific.

He said: “He always impresses me every day but it's not surprising any of us anymore. He's just so dedicated, so hardworking, so focused, so driven and that's why he's scored 25 goals this season.

“He's one of the big drivers, not only with goals but also a top mentality in terms of training and pushing the culture.

“I'd say that's why you have 25 goals. Of course his ability is top as well.”

Frank also praised youngster Joshua Dasilva, who impressed enough in the victory to be a man of the man candidate before it eventually went to Benrahma.

The 20-year-old, who made his full home debut against Ipswich, dictated play with his passing while the midfielder's tackling helped to disrupt opposition attacks.

But the Bees boss urged him to improve the defensive side of his game if he is to break into the starting 11 more often.

Frank added: “I was pleased with him. The big thing for me is that he needs to learn the defensive part of the game.

“When we go into pressure he needs to spring the counter-press, spring the carrier runs, all those. You can't underestimate any situations defensively when you play in there.

“I think he did that quite well today. I'm sure when I watch the video back I'll find situations and I'll show him, but I'm pleased with that, and then you can see that beautiful effort. The assist that he should have had for Ollie Watkins was wow.

“I've never been in doubt of him about that part but that's not the thing that will get him into the team, that's the defensive part.

“But if he's in the team with the defensive part then the other part can make him a top player.”
