Judo coach Mike Mounowah won the Coach of the Year award at The Active Wandsworth Awards for his work at Ernest Bevin College.

The annual award ceremony which took place on February 22 champions the best sporting and fitness talent in Wandsworth, crowned Mounowah for his work in the Tooting based college helping develop young people as players and as people.

The coach was placed in the college as part of London charity 'Greenhouse Sports.'

"Looking forward, I would love my Judo players to take home medals in the British School Competition in March,” said Mounowah.

"I have worked hard since 2014 - from primary schools to an elite level - and now we are UK’s number one school out of over 460 Schools.

“I am really proud to receive this recognition,"

Mounowah’s judo programme at Ernest Bevin College had a successful start to the year, with three out of six boys bringing home medals in this year’s Midlands Judo Age Band Competition, held at Wolverhampton University in January.

Greenhouse Sports coaches deliver sport for development programmes in schools and community clubs across London with the aim to develop not only participants’ technical sporting abilities and fitness but also important life skills such as resilience, team work, leadership, communication, self-discipline and confidence.

Last year, Greenhouse Sports coaches worked with over 8000 young people. Mounowah’s judo programme is supported by players of the People’s Postcode Lottery.
