Thomas Frank admitted his side couldn't cope with Sheffield Wednesday's pressure in their 2-0 defeat at Hillsborough.
A Steven Fletcher brace for the Owls left manager Steve Bruce claiming it was the best performance since his appointment.
Frank, despite praising his opposite number however, said his side looked flat as they stay 16th in the Championship.
"They pressed us very high, went man for man and we didn't have a solution," said Frank.
"We knew the solution, we just didn't do it. That made us extremely bad on the ball. I haven't seen us give the ball away so many times like we did today.
"We looked without energy and we couldn't get back into the game. It was a well-deserved win for Sheffield Wednesday.
"We knew it's a very difficult place to play and we talked about that before the game. There's always bad spells and we need to handle it better.
"We need to stay in the game, manage it and don't give the ball away.
"We need to keep the ball and wait for the right moment. Sometimes we just need to manage games better away from home.
"It's a very big disappointment.
"Fair play to Steve Bruce and Sheffield Wednesday."
Brentford return to Griffin Park on Saturday as they welcome QPR who ended a five game losing run by beating promotion chasing Leeds United 1-0.
