Lee Bowyer will appeal Lyle Taylor’s red card received in their feisty 1-0 win over Accrington Stanley.

Taylor and Stanley goalkeeper Jonny Maxted were both shown red by referee John Busby on 80minutes after a melee broke out following a corner.

Charlton went on to win the game deep in injury time thanks to Karlan Grant’s penalty, as animosity at the final whistle continued down the tunnel.

“100% we’ll appeal, they’ve done nothing wrong,” said Bowyer.

“I’ve looked back at it, for me I don’t understand why the two of them have been sent off.

“They’re the two that’s done least.

“Lyle is laying on the floor for the whole incident, at least 2 people, one treads on his head, and another treads on him.

“Them two things are worse that what Lyle and the goalie did wrong.

“If you look back at the goings on while he’s on the floor, there’s two or three more that could’ve got sent off.

“Lyle or the keeper, I can’t see what they’ve done wrong.

“We’ll appeal it.”

As Grant scored from the spot in the dying moments the crowd erupted, and a pitch invasion occurred.

Clearly incensed the Stanley players and coaching staff felt aggrieved and made their feelings known at the final whistle as confrontation between both sets of players continued down the tunnel.

Bowyer, clearly delight with the win, understood the oppositions reaction.

“They’re passionate people, they want to win, so do my players.

“At the end of the day, they want to win and it’s hurt them as they’ve not won. I get that, it’s a competitive game, its shows they’ve come here and given everything.

“I like to think it could’ve been handled differently but they’re all winners, Accrington are the same.”

Speaking of the tunnel bust-up where Bowyer appeared to be shoved by an Accrington player, when asked if he believed it was deliberate he quipped:

“What do you think?!

“The fourth official took me aside once that fella bumped in to me, but I didn’t see anything happening in there (the tunnel).”

Charlton stay fourth ahead of their trip to Peterborough next Saturday.
