Brentford manager Thomas Frank admits that his side need to learn quickly if they are to end a run of six defeats in seven.

Slipping to 17th in the Championship following the Bees 3-2 defeat by Sheffield United, Frank said that his side need to show better game management at key moments in the game.

“We’ve lost six games by one goal,” said Frank.

“I think all the games you can see that it’s sometimes fine margins that define the game.

“We need to learn, and we can’t learn quick enough in those situations. We need to learn to control games, and to learn when we are suffering to take a break, we can’t go forward all the time."

“If you’d said to me after seven games we’ve lost six, I’d have said, “No, not a chance. Not with this squad, this club.”

“But this is the status after seven games and we need to look into that, and we need to improve.”

The comments come after he saw his side concede shortly after scoring themselves through Neal Maupay and Romaine Sawyers. A fact that Frank has not missed.

“It feels like, we work so hard to score every goal, and every time you score, the opponents score. That’s tough to take.

“There’s only one way out of it. That is face it. Don’t feel sorry for ourselves. Work hard. Do the job. Get our heads down. Make sure we stick together.

“It’s very tough and it’s easy to criticise. But there’s only one way out of this and that’s to stay together and to do the job right.”

Together was a key word from Frank who undoubtedly had heard the discord amongst the fans about the Bees plight. Although early in his managerial career, there were calls from some fans that he was out of his depth. Frank was quick to respond to the supporters as a whole.

“It’s understandable that after a good start to the season, everything now seems, “Woah, what is happening.”

“But just one clear message to them is that they should never doubt that the players and we work very hard to get out of this. We do everything we can every day to make sure we turn every stone, to squeeze everything out of each other, to flip this around.

“I think if you look with a cool head and a calm eye on the game, you will see they are putting a lot of effort into this. So it is now our responsibility to make it click.”
