Devastation was the mood in the Hampton and Richmond Borough dressing room after conceding Oldham’s injury time winner according to goal-scorer Chris Dickson.

Dickson put the hosts in dreamland from the spot on 15minutes but late goals from Rob Hunt and Callum Long turned the dream in to a nightmare for the Beavers in the FA Cup first round.

“We’re devastated in there,” said Dickson.

“We can’t believe it. Not to get a draw out of it, is irritating to say the least.

“We had chances, even second half we had chances so to come away with nothing is unbelievable.

“From a neutral’s point of view it was great I’m sure, a spectacle. But we’d of liked to have come away with something. It’s devastating.”

Dickson’s penalty came after Tyrell Miller-Rodney was judged have been brought down by Callum Lang after some neat play down the right with the impressive Zak Joseph. Ahead of the penalty Dickson revealed that joseph had some words of encouragement for him.

“I was more nervous than I’ve ever been (taking the penalty), Joseph told me, ‘do what you usually do.’

“I dispatched it and there was an uproar!”

There were 49 league places between the two sides, and it was the fitness of the full time League Two outfit that ultimately was the difference.

Hunt’s equaliser on 88minutes, whereby Oldham went the length of the field from a Beavers attacking free-kick highlighted their fitness levels.

“We worked on that free-kick and we pulled it off to an extent. They blocked it and they broke. You could see the full-time football in them in the way they broke, they kept on going and going and going.

“We were tired. You could see the difference between part time and full time.

“It’s devastating.”
