Henrik Dalsgaard insists Brentford have the players and style of play to succeed but must “remember to defend” as well.

The Bees conceded three times in 10 minutes against Queens Park Rangers as Neal Maupay went off with a serious injury after handing the visitors the lead.

Massimo Luongo grabbed the equaliser, and Joel Lynch struck the Rs in front, before Nakhi Wells extended their advantage during the thrilling west London derby clash.

Dalsgaard would pull one back for Brentford in the 81st minute but the moment was bittersweet as Said Benrahma went off with an ankle injury.

While the 29-year-old believes losing Maupay was a pivotal moment in the clash, he doesn’t think it explains the Bees’ capitulation.

He said: “Neal has been very, very good for us this season definitely but that doesn’t mean you can have blackouts like that.

“Of course, he’s a good player for us but that doesn’t mean you should stop defending all of a sudden.

“It’s alright that they score one goal. Of course, you don’t want to concede, but sometimes that happens. But then you need to need to take it easy, keep a calm head and make sure they don’t get the second one straight away.

“We have do better, we have to be more professional, we have to be more experienced. Sometimes just kick the ball out of the stadium and take it from there.”

Defeat to fierce rivals QPR means Brentford have slipped to 15th in the Championship table with yet another defeat away from home.

The international break will see several players go away on duty before Thomas Frank’s men take on three promotion contenders in quick succession – Middlesbrough, Sheffield United, and West Bromwich Albion.

Dalsgaard thinks it’s imperative for the team to find their feet again, and fast.

He added: “We need to get back on track.

“We have the players, we have the style of play to do better than what we’re doing, but we need to remember to defend as well.

“That’s a part of football as well.”
