AFC Wimbledon CEO Erik Samuelson has penned a letter to fans addressing the plight of the club.
Neal Ardley’s men have lost their previous nine league games and there has been unrest amongst fans surrounding the long serving and much-loved manager.
Sitting one from bottom in League One, Samuelson released the statement to quash rumours and to give total transparency to what discussions have been held between the Football Club Board and the Dons Trust Board to rectify the club’s fortunes.
“We're very confident Neal continues to carry the dressing room with him,” the statement said.
“The track record of clubs appointing a new manager mid-season is at best mixed and as often as not makes no discernible improvement in performance.”
Samuelson also said that he would make funds available in the transfer window and that Ardley will be the man in charge of recruitment, but until then he remains the best man for the job.
“We can't add to the squad until January and Neal is best placed to bring out the best from the current squad.
“Football is a matter of fine margins and in many games this season our overall performance has been good and the result could easily have been different. We think these will even out over the season.”
The statement stressed that it was not the ‘dreaded vote of confidence’ to the manager, but a message to the fans that action has been taken to turn the club’s fortunes around.
As usual some fans were pleased to see the statement and the backing of the manager, while others still caused for change.
Good statement Erik tonight. Support the manager and the players and we can turn this around #coyd #afcw

@AFCWimbledon After Erik Samuelson's outrageous statement are we able to call a vote of no confidence in the FCB and the DTB? Replacing a manager mid season can be costly but not a costly as relegation. #afcw #afcwimbledon
