The biggest crowd Rovers have played in front of saw them exit the Surrey Senior Cup at the first attempt when they went down 2-0 to landlords Sutton Utd.

Maybe a few shivers went down the spine when the landlords lined up with Nicky Bailey, Tom Bolarinwa, Dan Wishart and three other first team players from the start.

As you would expect Utd dominated much of the play in the first half, and Rovers were indebted to excellent performances from Ollie Ellaway between the sticks, and skipper Craig Hastings, who was inspirational once again.

Utd took the lead on 20 minutes when Ellaway made an initial save, but Bolarinwa was on hand to fire home from close range. Rovers though didn't crumble and with Ollie Twum and Neset Belkilli they always had outlets on the flanks, but half time came with United 1-0 to the good.

It was an improved second half performance from Rovers and after a period of containment, with the backline again immense, and a couple of missed chances for United, they started to take the game to their illustrious visitors.

Jordan Gallagher went close on 65 minutes, but screwed his shot wide when well placed, and a cross shot by Matt Tanton had keeper Ross Worner scrambling and eventually turning the ball over for a corner.

As Rovers tired United came on strong again, and in the 86th minute they sealed the win. A half clearance reached Brendan McCarthy and he sent a rasping low effort beyond Ellaway to put United into the second round.
