Thomas Frank's life in charge at Brentford didn't get off to the best of starts. Here's what we leanrt from the 1-0 defeat by Bristol  City.

Brentford temperament
With five yellow cards, two to Chris Mepham, questions will be asked over Brentford’s temperament and discipline. Against a side that clearly came with a game plan to get under the skin of the more expansive footballers the bees have, they will need to keep their composure when the clock is against them and more importantly when they think the referee is against them.

Admire the willingness to play

Daniel Bentley’s selection in goal shows the way Brentford want to play and we have to admire that. Playing football from deep will bring some groans from the Brentford faithful but errors will occur if teams try and keep possession under pressure. There were occasions when Frank’s side worked their way up the field, and quickly, all that was missing was the ruthless finishing that was on show earlier this season.

Refereeing decisions

Manager’s will never be able to discuss refereeing decisions honestly for fear of the ramifications.

But I’d think both sets of fans, players and managers will feel hard done by Robert Jones’ performance.

Captaincy

Is the lack of one full time captain having an effect on the side? Today’s captain was Romaine Sawyers, and who knows who it will be next week. The reasoning is to breed more leaders on the pitch, but could it be having an adverse effect on the playing personnel?

Thomas Frank

New manager, same Brentford. With little time for him to fully put his stamp on the outfit before today’s game, there were signs of what he wants to achieve. Adopting a higher press and pushing Sawyers further up the field they are  looking to win the ball in the final third and get on the front foot a lot quicker.
Much was made of his managerial debut but now it has gone, there’s no doubt Frank will be looking forward to turning this in to his Brentford outfit.
