London Scottish captain is loving life back at the Richmond Athletic Ground and is relishing the challenge that London Irish will bring this Sunday.

The ‘club legend’ shows no signs of slowing as he celebrated his 40th birthday last Saturday with a few ‘iced waters’ on the team bus following their 26-23 win at Bedford.

The result backed up their first win of the season over Jersey and puts Scottish sixth in the Championship ahead of their fellow Celts visit who sit third.

“Everyone can’t wait for the challenge to play a side who’ve come down from the Premiership and are tipped to go straight back up,” said the man in his second stint with the club.

“It’s got a bit of added spice too as it’s on tv. We’re in the shop window so if we want to perform, Sunday is the day to be doing it.”

Anyone who has watched Scottish this weekend can pinpoint their issues instantly, their start. But Bright believes if they can turn up from minute one to minute 80 they can cause teams problems, and that’s precisely what they did at Bedford.

“It’s a tough old league and people don’t give it enough credit, especially away from home. Bedford is a hard place to go, but we started well dug deep and came back strong second half and got the result we wanted.”

Without getting drawn into a discussion about the weekend’s game, Bright is looking at the bigger picture with Scottish and the aims for the season.

“We’re building a culture at Scottish and people are buying in to it really well and hopefully that will continue over the next season or two as we try and get Scottish up the ladder where they deserve to be.

“There is talk of the club aiming for top six this season which is realistic. We’ll assess after Christmas and see where we are sitting then and set another goal after that if needs be. But all being well, we can make it.”

Having played over 120 games for Scottish, Bright was inducted in to the club’s hall of fame in 2015 before a two seasons spell with Ealing Trailfinders, and now he’s back offloading his winning mentality and hunger for improvement on his teammates.

“The coaches seem to think we can get a lot better, which is nice to hear. It’s all about consistency and momentum swings. If we can control momentum swings better than the opposition then nine times out of then we’ll come out the victor.”
