Sutton United will kick-off their 2018/19 Vanarama National League campaign with a trip to newly-promoted Harrogate Town.

Paul Doswell’s boys will face the National North play-off winners on Saturday, August 4 for what will be the Yorkshire side’s first ever match in the fifth tier of English football.

Sutton’s first home game of the season comes three days later (Tuesday, August 7) when they entertain old adversaries Eastleigh and then, the following Saturday (August 11), the U’s host National North champions Salford City.

Salford have hit the headlines in recent seasons having enjoyed a meteoric rise following a takeover by members of the so-called Class of ‘92 — former Manchester United players Paul Scholes, Nicky Butt, Ryan Giggs and Phil and Gary Neville.

Sutton will play neighbours Bromley home and away over Christmas and the new year.

Sutton United August fixtures:

Saturday, 4: Harrogate Town (A)
Tuesday, 7: Eastleigh (H)
Saturday, 11: Salford City (H)
Tuesday, 14: Ebbsfleet United (A)
Saturday, 18: Solihull Moors (A)
Saturday, 25: AFC Fylde (H)
Monday, 27: Aldershot Town (A)

The U’s returned to training last week with Doswell outlining his expectations for the forthcoming season as his side bids for success on four fronts.

“The Irn-Bru Cup is a great competition,” the Sutton boss told SUFCtv.

“What people don’t realise is that every week can get a bit samey, so hopefully it will allow us to go away for a couple of days as a squad and bond.

“But I think the first thing to do is make sure we’re in this division the following season. That might sound depressing to some people, but it’s true.

“We’d like to get to the FA Trophy final. In previous years we’ve had to forgo that because we’ve done so well in the league or the FA Cup.

“In the league, we’d like to hit the play-offs, so we’re looking to get in that top seven, that’s the aim.

“And we’re looking to get through to the second or third round of the FA Cup. So we’re going quite strong on what the ambitions are."

United host their first pre-season game this Saturday (July 7) against Coventry City.

Kick-off for the game has been switched to 1pm to allow supporters and officials to watch the England v Sweden World Cup quarter-final at 3pm.

The match will give fans the chance to cast their eye over Sutton’s summer signings — Dale Bennett, Dan Wishart and Charlie Clough — as well as enjoy the newly refurbished bar.
