July is an important month for the Rotary as it marks the start of the new Rotary Year, and with it the election of new Officers by each club. The Rotary Club of Twickenham Upon Thames is very pleased to announce that our new Club President is Rtn Ian Cave.

Ian joined the Club in 1978, which is the year that the Club was inaugurated, and was also Club President in 1984-85. In 2004 he was awarded a Paul Harris Fellowship which is the highest award given to Rotarians for their work in Rotary.

He brings to our new year a huge amount of experience. In addition to being Club President he is a member of the Vocation and Youth Service, and holds the role of Pastoral Officer. The latter requires him to provide support to Members and their families during difficult times, and to look after the continued welfare of wives or husbands of deceased members.

The Club would also like to give a big thank you to Dion Scherer, the previous year’s President, who continued to fulfil his duties throughout the year despite a dog walking accident which resulted in breaking his left hip which then had to be replaced. He assured members that his dog was unhurt!

The Rotary Club of Twickenham Upon Thames meets each Tuesday evening at the Strawberry Hill Golf Club. If your readers are interested in making a difference in the local community, then our website is www.tutrotary.org or a telephone call away with Rotarian Margaret Gilroy-Smith on 020 8894 4044. New members are always welcome.
