A tropical fish tank has been donated to a children's hospice in memory of a baby boy who died after losing his battle with a rare genetic disorder.

Jasper Jake Allibone, nicknamed JJ, was just short of three months old when he died but his memory will live on with a special mini-aquarium that his family have donated to Hampton Hill’s Shooting Star Children's Hospice.

His mother Anne Allibone, 31, said the donation seemed a fitting tribute to their little boy, who died on December 6 having suffered from chromosome four deletion, which can lead to heart defects.

She said: “My husband is very into fish and Jasper had a little musical one that he loved.

“After he died we decided we wanted to get a fish tank for Shooting Star (where he received care).

“We’ve gone for very interactive fish and hoped it would be something really good for them. We’ve had loads of positive feedback from the children already which is great.”

And Mrs Allibone and husband Richard, 42, of Priory Road, Kew, have made the donation a real family affair with friends and relatives taking part in sponsored events to raise money to pay for and maintain the tank.

Mrs Allibone's family and many friends ran in memory of JJ in April’s 16-mile Kingston Breakfast Run and just two weeks later sister Jenny went on to complete the London Marathon in a time of three hours 53 minutes.

Mrs Allibone said: “Our extended friends and family have been just fantastic. We have done a number of runs and raised around £10,000 to £12,000.

“The support of everyone has been amazing and a few friends are even going to do the five peaks challenge. It’s brought everyone together.

“And Shooting Star has been really good to us - it’s nice having more of an association with charities and knowing people who have had help from them.”

Jasper, described as a “beautiful little boy who was very calm and took everything his stride”, will be remembered by the new fish tank which was installed last week and will offer entertainment for other kids with life-limiting illnesses who visit Shooting Star.

His family has also donated £3,500 to the Royal Brompton Hospital in his name. Visit justgiving.com/joggingforjj to donate to the cause.
