Iris Mills, née Taylor, was stationed at the Feltham Ordnance Depot during the Second World War and asks if any readers remember that time. Writing from Waterlooville, Hampshire where she comes from and lives with Ray, her husband of 60 years, Iris, who has a daughter and grandson and is now 84, writes: I was a member of the ATS, Auxiliary Territorial Service from mid 1943 until early 1946 and recently found a group photograph of F' Company ATS taken at the depot in Elmwood Avenue in 1945, probably soon after the war ended. I am fourth from the left in the second row from the front and remember quite a few names and of course we were from various parts of the country. I am in touch with Iris Steele, Campbell as she was from Doncaster who is in the front row and Elsie Hawley from Nottingham. I would be interested to know what happened to the depot. In the centre of the picture is the Commandant, Brigadier Sewell and some senior ATS officers. I expect it was one of several similar group photos taken before demobilisation began to split us all up. The photographer was Wakefields Limited of Chiswick. No doubt many copies were distributed but I wonder how many exist now. During the war, the depot was a huge place on either side of a road which I think ran to Bedfont.'' If you remember those days. If you are in the photograph, do contact Nostalgia Notebook and we will pass your memories on to Iris.
