Olympic champion Steven Burke showed off his gold medal at Sigma Sports in Hampton Wick last Thursday.

The 24-year-old, who rides for Team IG-Sigma Sport, was part of the team who won the UCI world track cycling championships in team pursuit during the games.

Calvin Cox, of Sigma Sport, said: “When Steven arrived in the store, there was a buzz among the staff who were keen to congratulate him on his success at the Olympics.

“As Steven had been busy preparing for the Games he hadn’t been able to race as much as he would like for his road team, so it was a good chance for him to catch up with the guys in the store.”

The public arrived at 5pm and were able to meet the road cycling champion, have their picture taken and wear his gold medal.

Burke thanked everyone who attended and was grateful for the support the public showed during the Olympics.

He said he hopes to win gold again in Rio 2016 “and hopefully the following Games too”.

Mr Cox said: “Sigma Sport is delighted to have Steven on its professional road cycling team and pleased to be able to support such a great athlete in such an important year.”
