Richmond Adult Community College (RACC) has received more than £300,000 for a new entrepreneurial development project.

RACC was awarded £303,000 by the Association of Colleges for its enterprise agenda for adults, which is aimed at helping adults develop business start up skills.

RACC principal Christina Conroy said: “Since the recession hit Richmond badly in 2008, our Richmond Business School has been responding to unprecedented student demand and delivering a wide range of skills to adults who wish to become self-employed or start a business.

“We are now in the position to put together a recognised qualification framework and curriculum that will guide adults through an effective education in start-up success.”

The new business project will see students learn everything from business start-up essentials and tips on turning their passions to profit, to how to use social media and networking.

Councillor Pamela Fleming, Richmond’s strategic cabinet member for community, business and culture, added: “This funding will give RACC the opportunity to really advance its curriculum for adult learning with a focus on social enterprise and entrepreneurship.

“In this difficult economic climate, when there is increasing competition for jobs, this kind of learning is vitally important to sustain the local economy and improve the quality of life for our residents.”
