A community company is one step closure to securing funding to create Europe’s largest hydropower scheme.
Ham Hydro has beaten off competition from across the country to make it through to the second stage of the Energyshare launch fund, which supports renewable energy projects.
If the group is successful it will win £100,000 which would be put towards creating a hydropower installation at Teddington Weir, reducing carbon emissions both in the borough and nationally.
Income generated from the scheme will go toward promoting and developing further low-carbon solutions in Ham and surrounding areas.
To be in with the chance of winning the money the group has to rally up as much support as possible to beat the other 100 groups battling it out for the fund.
