Campaigners were today being urged to show their support for dementia suffers by attending a special council meeting on the closure of Tangley Hall.

Councillors will gather for a final meeting on Tuesday to discuss the fate of the specialist day centre, which is earmarked for closure by Richmond Council.

Once the centre is closed Tangley users will have to travel to a day care centre in Ham and many patients and their families have spoken of their distress and disappointment at the decision.

But Councillor Nicola Urquhart, Richmond Council’s cabinet member for adult services, health and housing, said she advocated the closure of Tangley to instead have “one large centre of excellence” in Ham.

Campaigners are calling on people to attend the meeting and support the users of the centre.

The meeting will be held at 6.30pm, at York House, Twickenham.
