The tastes and smells of Tudor times were brought to life at Hampton Court Palace’s historic kitchens.
Visitors were able to watch staff dressed in 15th century outfits making traditional dishes at the palace last weekend.
A massive 200 staff worked in the kitchens during the king’s reign and were tasked with making 600 meals twice a day.
The kitchens continued to be used for a further 200 years, feeding the tables of Tudor, Stuart and Georgian monarchs and their many courtiers.
Visitor Alex Bird said: “I thought the Tudor kitchens were fascinating. I enjoyed the live cooking demonstrations as that meant you got a bit of flavour of how they used to prepare meals.
“I just wonder how long it must have taken to do the washing up?”
