Rail commuters faced disruption today after fresh snowfalls across London.

Many trains serving Richmond and Twickenham were delayed by more than an hour-and-a-half after up to 15cm of snow fell in some areas overnight.

Twickenham resident Mark Pestridge, 42, of Heathfield South, found himself deciding whether or not to cancel a business meeting in central London after severe delays at the station.

He said: "I'm trying to get to Victoria and I have been here about 15 minutes but I've got pretty low hopes of getting a train.

"I work in London but didn't go in earlier this morning because of the weather and now I'm thinking I'm going to have to abandon my business meeting in a minute as well."

South West Trains said commuters should check their route before travelling today.

Light snow is forecast to fall in the borough throughout the day and visibility will be poor, according to the Met Office.

Temperatures remain below freezing and could reach as low as -4C by tonight.

Forecasters said snow showers will continue mostly in the south and east of the capital throughout the morning with temperatures staying below freezing in most places.

Most council-run services in Richmond are unaffected, however, one school, Oldfield House Special School, in Hampton, was closed today.

Southern trains and Gatwick Express services are running no services until at least 10am.

Southeastern trains are severely disrupted.

Gatwick is closed until 6am tomorrow and there were also severe delays and cancellations at Heathrow and London City.
