St Margarets’ Brula restaurant has been voted runner up in the Observer Food Monthly’s Best UK Restaurant competition for the second year running.

The reader-voted awards, published on October 17, recognises the best in British food and drink, and promotes places that deserve to be better known.

Brula is an intimate French restaurant in Crown Road, with a regularly changing menu that focuses on seasonality and provenance.

Owner Lawrence Hartley said: “I am delighted we have been voted Runner Up in the Observer Food Awards for the second year.

“The fact that it is reader voted really means a lot to me, it’s recognition that we have been giving customers what they want, so a big thank you to everyone who voted.”

The St Margarets restaurant has won a number of awards over the years and has impressively retained the Michelin Bib Gourmand title for a decade.

The Observer also had reason to celebrate, with a record high of almost 10,000 votes at this year’s awards.
