I live in Kingston near the market and, as a lover of the old buildings which are left, I am very concerned about the remaining old buildings and the market going. It is so much a part of Kingston, that as a resident I would like to know that it will stay as it is.
I have written a poem just to remember how it used to be in the old days. It may strike a chord with readers.
Requiem for Kingston
Kingston the way it used to be,
Historic buildings with it's history,
The old bridge which dates back centuries,
And the river with all it's mystery.
Cattle in the market to be sold,
Farmers tales to be told,
Vegetable, fruit, and clothes on show,
When Kingston market was aglow.
Excited voices of the past are clear,
The distant sound of horses hooves we hear,
When life then was oh so slow,
A phantom of long long ago.
The last buildings which now stand,
May now turn to land,
Nothing of the past is saved,
Just another shopping parade.
