Ham Gate in Richmond Park is set to be closed all weekend, due to the wintry conditions, as will all but three car parks.

Royal Parks, which administers and maintains the park, confirmed the gate and the road into the park will be shut over the weekend due to the snow and icy conditions.

A spokeswoman added only Pembroke, Shene and Roehampton car parks were open with the others closed, again due to the conditions.

She said: “Ham Gate is closed, there is ice on the hill so it is not safe.

“Yesterday [Thursday] morning all roads in Richmond Park were closed but all are now open except for Ham Gate.

“The parks remain open to visitors. However, given the weather conditions visitors will wish to take care as there may be ice on roads and footpaths.

"We continue to monitor conditions in the parks and whilst we will endeavour to keep roads open, road closures may be necessary should conditions deteriorate.”

She said there were no closures in Bushy Park and if there were any changes, due to worsening weather conditions, Transport for London and councils would be notified, signs would be placed in and around the parks and the information would appear on its website.

Hampton Court Palace will also remain open, but not all areas of the grounds will be accessible.

A spokeswoman from Historic Royal Palaces, the charity which looks after Hampton Court, said the palace would remain open to visitors for as long as it is safe.

Residents have reported areas of the palace, and Home Park, had been closed and the spokeswoman confirmed that had been the case.

She added: “Because we are trying to conserve supplies of salt and grit only the main walkways that lead to and around the palace have been covered.

“A few of the palace gardens, and the maze, may be closed at the moment.”
