The jury in the trial of a college student accused of killing a drunken man by stabbing him through the heart today retired to consider its verdict.
Jahangir Hussain, 19, is said to have knifed Robert Venenavuci three times with an eight-inch blade as the 27-year-old tried to strangle his sister in a flat in Wood Lane, Isleworth.
The teenager is facing trial at the Old Bailey where he denies murder.
The jury retired at 12.55pm today, in the trial which began last Tuesday.
The court heard Hussain lashed out with a kitchen knife as Fijian-born Mr Venenavuci attacked Halima Khatun - his landlady and Hussain’s sister. Police found Mr Venenavuci lying in a pool of blood and he died in hospital less than three hours later.
Hussain, of College Road, Isleworth, told officers he was forced to stab his sister’s tenant in self-defence after he punched him and Ms Khutan, and put his hands around his sister’s neck.
The trial continues.
