A painting of Bedford Park in the late 1800s has been donated to the Bedford Park Society by two long-standing residents.

Andrew and Hannah Alers Hankey, who are moving from the area, have given the painting to the society as they wanted to ensure that the original watercolour stayed in Bedfont Park – the earliest garden suburb.

The painting shows the view of St Michael and All Angels Church, Bedford Park, in 1881 by artist Frederick Hamilton Jackson, who lived at various times in Queen Anne’s Grove and Woodstock Road in Chiswick.

Vice-president Simon Hillyard said: “The society is extremely grateful for this most generous gift and extends thanks to Andrew and Hannah, with all good wishes for their new life overlooking the river in Hammersmith.”
