Richmond residents have been invited to nominate the local heroes who make a difference to their communities every day.

Nominations are now open for the 2025-26 Community Heroes Awards, which recognise individuals, groups, and businesses who volunteer their time to support others.

Now in their eighth year, the awards highlight the contributions of those who go above and beyond to improve their neighbourhoods.

Nancy Baldwin, spokesperson for communities, equalities and the voluntary sector at Richmond Council, said: "Richmond upon Thames isn’t just a beautiful place to live – it’s a borough defined by the people who make it special.

"Every day, local people are transforming lives of others through kindness, creativity, and community spirit.

"Whether it’s a neighbour, a volunteer, a community group or a local business, we all know someone who makes a difference.

"These awards are our chance to say thank you – and to make sure those efforts don’t go unnoticed."

The awards scheme celebrates those who give their time and energy to help others, from saving surplus food to protecting green spaces and supporting vulnerable residents.

All winners are nominated by fellow residents, making the recognition truly community-driven.

There are nine award categories:

  • Business Contribution in the Community
  • Community Group of the Year
  • Community Project of the Year
  • Community Spirit Award
  • Environmental Award
  • Outstanding Volunteer
  • Trustee of the Year
  • Young Person Achievement
  • Lifetime Achievement

Nominations are open to anyone volunteering in the borough and can be submitted in more than one category.

Nominations can be made online through the Richmond Council website.

A full list of categories, entry criteria, and stories of past winners are available on the Community Heroes webpage.

For more information, or to request a paper nomination form, residents can email events@richmond.gov.uk or call 020 8871 8390.

The awards are organised by Richmond Council and are part of an ongoing effort to champion the positive impact of volunteering and community action across the borough.

Shortlisted nominees will be invited to attend the Community Heroes Awards ceremony in late March 2026, where this year’s winners will be revealed.

The deadline for submissions is 11.59pm on Sunday, February 8, 2026.
