Aston Villa have set their sights on a “massive” game at the Amex after a night which brought European disappointment but a major Premier League boost.

Villa lost 4-2 at home to Olympiacos in the first leg of their Conference League semi-final.

At the same time, their hopes of a top-four finish in the Premier League were boosted as Tottenham went down 2-0 at Chelsea.

A win over Albion on Sunday would leave Villa on the brink of Champions League qualification – and it would be secured by the time they got home if Spurs then lost at Anfield.

Villa midfielder John McGinn said: “A lot of people will go home disappointed tonight, none more so than us.

“But we have a big game on Sunday, a massive game in terms of league position, and then another huge game on Thursday in the second leg.”

Villa remain seven points above Spurs, who now have only four games to play.

Unai Emery only made three changes to his starting XI following the 2-2 draw with Chelsea at the weekend.

Emiliano Martinez, who served a one-match suspension and also has a minor injury, missed out along with Youri Tielemans (groin injury) and Pau Torres (tactical).
