This is not just food - M&S Food has become the first shop to have a presence at the home of English football.

M&S has opened up two food halls at Wembley Stadium in Wembley Park.

Former England internationals Shaun Wright-Phillips and Faye White officially opened the new branches ahead of the Community Shield game between Arsenal and Manchester City on August 6.

The deal is part of the national stadium’s drive to offer healthier food choices to fans and aligns with M&S Food’s commitment, through its Eat Well, Play Well partnership with The Football Association (The FA), "to make healthier eating easier, inspiring, and more accessible for families".

M&S Food has been working with The FA, and its international footballers, for the past year to offer healthy food and drinks to complement their strict nutritional regimes.

The two food halls are located on the east and western sides of level two, and will sell sandwiches, hot food and "M&S favourites" alongside other outlets selling staples such as burgers and chips and hot dogs.

Wembley Park is already home to grocery outlets including Sainsbury's and Tesco as well as dozens of restaurants but they are all outside the main stadium.

M&S Food managing director Alex Freudmann said the opportunity to work with the stadium was "the next logical step".

“We’re passionate about helping families eat healthier through our Eat Well range, and as a football fan myself I know how frustrating it can be to find healthy food options within grounds," he added.

"Now visitors to Wembley Stadium can have more of a choice - more than 50 per cent of items on sale in our stores will be Eat Well, including sandwiches and hot items, while the rest will be M&S favourites that we all know and love.

"All will be the same great quality and value that you’d expect from M&S Food.”

Paul Scannell, head of hospitality at Wembley Stadium, said: “We’re delighted to welcome our first external food retailer into the stadium. We are also thrilled that it’s not just any retailer…… it’s M&S Food."
