London is the backdrop to thousands of films, from romcoms like Love Actually, to horror film 28 Days Later and even comedy spy flick Johnny English.

Practically every part of London has been featured in a film, but only a select few earn the name of iconic.

As some destinations have forever been linked with huge films that have even seen some become tourist hotspots.

But there are a select few that are deemed worthy of most popular filming locations as Casino Hawks revealed the top five most popular and visited film sets.

5 most popular filming locations in London

Notting Hill

Starting off strong, Portobello Road is the most visited location in London with over 340,000 Instagram hashtags.

Movie fans will have already connected the dots that that's down to the beloved rom-com starring Hugh Grant and Julia Roberts with Notting Hill.

The 90s romcom stole the hearts of millions and now it seems they all want to see and walk the streets the famous actors wondered down.

The quirky street market was used during the opening scene of Notting Hill, where Grant’s character, William Thacker, is seen walking through the Portobello Road market.

James Bond: Golden Eye

Bond fans may have already visited this must-see location, the 1995 film starring Pierce Brosnan saw Bond visit Somerset House.

With over 260,000 Instagram hashtags, Somerset House was used as a stand-in for Russia's St. Petersburg, and its grand courtyard was transformed into a bustling marketplace.

Plus, making two filming locations in one, the iconic ice rink within Somerset House was also utilised in the film for a thrilling chase sequence.

Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone

Arguably the most famous of filming locations, Kings Cross Station was used in the first Harry Potter film, Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone.

Known as the home of platform 9 3/4, Kings Cross even has its own Harry Potter shop dedicated to the magical world.

Whilst although there might not be a real platform 9 3/4 there is really a luggage trolly halfway in the wall, making the perfect spot for a photo opportunity.

Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone

Another spot from the first Harry Potter film, Leadenhall Market has become famous for its magical connections.

Standing in for Diagon Alley, Leadenhall Market is a popular destination even away from its Potter connections due to its impressive architecture and shopping options.

Paddington Bear

Of course, a list of London's most popular filming locations wouldn't be complete with Paddington Bear.

The film uses the location of Paddington Station when the bear first arrives to London after coming from deep dark Peru.

The station is also used in the second movie, where a big chase scene takes place between the friendly bear and villain Hugh Grant.
