Broomfield is built on a set of four core values; Curiosity, Creativity, Courage and Kindness, which underpin our culture and educational philosophy.

These were born out of consultation with the children, who collectively voted them as being important to achieving a happy and vibrant school. The children articulated ways in which they can demonstrate the values through their actions, which form a code of conduct. This encourages pupils to be curious in their learning, creative when problem-solving, courageous when taking on new things and, above all, being kind and recognising the kindness of others.

Built in 1876, we continue to build on our rich history of providing the very best educational experience for our children and achieve this through a forward-thinking approach to our curriculum. This entrepreneurial mindset and holistic approach to teaching puts children at the heart of decision making.

Our innovative Individual Learning Enhancement programme means that small group work and targeted teaching is available to every child. An excellent pupil:teacher ratio ensures we can deliver the specific input needed and consequently our children achieve outstanding 11+ results.

But equally important is that added-value is achieved across all ages, what we do is backed by research and our desire to give children strong foundations. We employ data in innovative and transparent ways and apply a marginal gains approach to academic performance and personal development, consistently asking what more we can do so each individual can perform at their best.

We often talk about family at Broomfield, seeking opportunities to make school feel like home. Our ‘Harry Potteresque’ house system builds vertical relationships between years, improving harmony. Mead, Palmer and Rose Houses, named for former Headteachers, create a real sense of unity and healthy competitiveness.

Each House elects representatives to the Pupil Council, where they actively make decisions to improve life at Broomfield. They utilise a budget generously provided by the PTA and recent commissions include glorious banners, adorned with the House mascots, which hang in our atrium.

Broomfield encourages ideas from our children, with choice and democratic debate central to how we improve and move forward. We are a small school, but punch well above our weight. Our school was awarded ‘Excellent in all areas’ by the ISI Inspectorate in September 2022, the highest rating an independent school can achieve.

We offer regular tours at 9.30am on Tuesdays and Thursdays, and welcome prospective families to join us and see what we have to offer. Please contact admissions@broomfieldhouse.com for more information or to book a visit.
