Chairman Greg Dyke says it would be a major disappointment if Brentford were not at least involved in the League Two play-offs next season.

Boss Andy Scott completed his third signing of the summer with the acquisition of Marcus Bean on Monday.

The Griffin Park manager, who signed a five-year contract earlier this month, hopes to bring in at least five more players to strengthen his squad for a promotion challenge Dyke says the board has upped Scott's playing budget to finance his summer plans and is optimistic the ex-Sheffield United striker can deliver.

"We were very impressed with the success Andy had when he took over in very difficult circumstances and we believe he is the right bloke to take the club forward," he said.

"We have made a bit more money available to him this season - probably more than we can afford - but we felt this was the year we had to try and have a go.

"As a club we would be disappointed if we weren't involved in the play-offs this time next year, but it is easy to be optimistic at this stage."

The extra money is off-set by a reduction in travel costs this season with Luton, Gillingham, Bournemouth and newly promoted Aldershot Town swelling the southern ranks in League Two.

Dyke, who was in Moscow on Wednesday to watch Manchester United lift the European Cup, says there will be no board interference over the players Scott can and cannot sign.

"He is looking to strengthen the spine of the squad and I would think another striker remains a priority," he added.

"The summer has started well, but there are plenty more faces to come in.

"It is entirely up to Andy who he wants. We have just supplied the means to get them."
