Four people collapsed during a running event in Richmond Park yesterday (August 14) and were taken to hospital.

London Ambulance Service paramedics were called to Richmond Park at 11.45am after several runners had become unwell during the extreme heat.

Ambulance crews, medics in a fast response car, an incident response officer and London’s Air Ambulance were sent to the scene.

London Air Ambulance’s advanced trauma team were dispatched by aircraft, and they treated a patient at the scene before taking them to hospital by road.

The Met Office had introduced an amber weather warning for extreme heat, which was in place from on Thursday, August 11 until Sunday, August 14.

Yesterday temperatures reached highs of 32 degrees in London.

Royal Parks Police tweeted: “Officers have been assisting @Ldn_Ambulance after 4 people were taken to hospital after collapsing during a running event in #RichmondPark.

“Please be careful out there folks and stay hydrated.”

A London Ambulance Spokesperson said: “We were called at approximately 11.45am today (14 August) to reports of a number of runners who had become unwell in Richmond Park.

“We sent a number of resources to the scene, including ambulance crews, medics in a fast response car, and an incident response officer.

“We also dispatched London’s Air Ambulance.

“Four people were taken hospital.”

A London Air Ambulance spokesperson said: “Our advanced trauma team was dispatched via aircraft by London Ambulance Service at 1148 yesterday to a medical incident in Richmond Park.

“After treatment on scene the patient was transferred by road to a major hospital accompanied by London’s Air Ambulance.”
