Eight fire engines and around 60 firefighters were called to a grass fire at Hounslow Heath, a park off of Staines Road, at 6.11pm yesterday.

London Fire Brigade took 25 calls to the fire.

It was brought under control by 8.02pm by fire crews from Heathrow, Chiswick, Hayes and other surrounding fire stations The Brigade has said that the cause of the fire will be investigated.

This comes after London Fire Brigade said it is concerned that the number of deliberate grass fires could spike further over the summer holidays, particularly in light of the Met Office issuing an amber weather warning for extreme heat in London this week as the hot weather makes the ground tinder dry.

London Fire Brigade (LFB) issued the warning on Wednesday after dozens of firefighters tackled the fire in Hatton Road, Feltham, last week which is thought to have been set on purpose.

A spokesperson for London Fire Brigade said: “Eight fire engines and around 60 firefighters were called to a fire on Staines Road in Hounslow.

“Firefighters tackled a fire in a park where around ten hectares of grassland were destroyed by the fire.

“The Brigade Control Office has taken 25 calls about the fire.

“The Brigade was called at 1811 and the fire was under control by 2002.

“Fire crews from Heathrow, Chiswick, Hayes and other surrounding fire stations attended the scene.

“The cause of the fire will be investigated.”
